Proposed Southeast Region Guidelines for Management and Disposition of Managing Federal Depository Library Collections in the Southeast

In April 2010, ASERL Deans / Directors unanimously approved a draft proposal for standardizing and streamlining the processes used to manage FDLP collections held by libraries in the Southeast. ASERL's Discussion Draft,  "Proposed Southeast Region Guidelines for Management and Disposition of Federal Depository Library Collections" is now available for public review.  An Executive Summary is also available.

ASERL solicited public comments on this draft proposal during the Summer of 2010.  The results of the feedback can be found here.

ASERL hosted a Summit Meeting in Atlanta on August 4th and a Working Session on August 5th to review these issues.  The Summit Meeting was broadcast live over the web; an archive of the broadcast is available through August 10, 2011.  The Powerpoint presentations from the Summit are available below.

Introduction
The U.S. Federal Depository Library Program disseminates information products from all three branches of the Government to over 1,250 libraries nationwide, including more than 250 libraries in the Southeast.  In this effort, the Regional Depository Libraries within ASERL are exploring ways to enhance cooperative training, outreach, service and collection analysis and development activities to improve access to Federal government information for the citizens in the region.  This collaborative effort would further the Government Printing Office's (GPO) objective of increasing cooperation among Regional Depositories.  Any programs developed by ASERL in this regard will ensure that Regionals continue to fulfill their legal responsibilities to Selective Depositories as described in Title 44 of the U.S. Code.
